How to Optimize Routes Before Dispatching to Lyft
How Route Optimization Works:
Before sending your scheduled deliveries to Lyft, you need to optimize the deliveries onto Route(s). See the steps below for how to Optimize your Routes.Steps:
How to Optimize Your Routes Before Dispatching Your Deliveries to Lyft:- Go to the Operations Tab and click on the Optimization icon.
- When the Optimization window pops up, click on New Job.
- STEP 1) Lyft Deliveries accepts Routes (no assignments). Select Routes and click Next.
- STEP 2) A list of Routes will appear and you can choose how many/which routes to optimize.
- Depending on how many deliveries you are making, you can select as many routes as you think you might need. Click on the box next to âRoute Nameâ to select all routes at once. Or, click one at a time.
- Click Next.
- STEP 3) On this screen youâll see all the Deliveries scheduled for the day. You can adjust the date to a future dates.
- You can filter the grid by Account Name, Account Class, Client Class, Route, and Status of the delivery. Zones are not to be used for Lyft deliveries.
- Select the deliveries you want to optimize by clicking in the box on the left side of the screen, or click Add All to add all Scheduled Deliveries to the Trips to Optimize window.
- Review the Trips to Optimize window and confirm you want to optimize the deliveries showing in the window.
- If you do not want to send one or more of the deliveries, select it in the box on the left and click Remove Selected.
- Once you have the deliveries you want to deliver in the Trips to Optimize window, click Next.
- STEP 4) Reviewing the default Time Windows. On the Go has a custom workflow in place for deliveries. For best results, it is suggested to not edit the Time Windows. Click Next.
- STEP 5) Review and Update Optimization Settings:
- Check Driver Qualifications and Require Same Mode do not apply. Leave unchecked.
- Make sure Multi-Load Trips is checked off (even if it is a single stop delivery).
- Which Vehicle Location to Consider should be on Neither Start or End.
- Add a Max Time on Vehicle Override if needed. This will provide a maximum amount of time a diver can take on a single route. Example if you have pershible food that cannot be on a route for more than three hours, check the box and input 180 minutes. The default setting is 240 minutes.
- Shift Limit and Same Location Stop Load Multiplier" do not apply to Lyft drivers and should remain in the default settings.
- Override Time Windows. The Time Windows are set on the account level and do not need to be adjusted. Changing the Early and Late Time Windows will apply to both the pick-up time and the drop off time.
- Click Next.
- STEP 6) Confirm the Date, # of Trips (Deliveries) and # of Routes.
- If you want to make changes, click previous and youâll be directed to the Optimization settings window to make changes.
- If the deliveries and route(s) appear correct, name the new Optimization job. This will be the batch of deliveries you plan to to Dispatch.
- Click Execute
- The system will then optimize the batch of Deliveries to the Route(s).
- Click the orange refresh button in the optimization screen to see your new Optimization job. Please note: This may take a minute to process.
- Once the Optimization has been completed, you will see the Status change from Processing to Completed.
- When the optimization finishes processing, click on the new Optimization job, and you will see the Route(s) and Number of Trips per Route populate in the Routes window. The number of Dropped Trips (if any) will also be visible.
- Dropped Trips can be added back onto the route, or onto a new route, on the next screen.
- Click on the box(es) next to Route(s) you want to save.
- Click the Apply link to save the checked Route(s). Click Apply again on the next pop-up window.
- This will take you to the Route Builder tool. Here you can check all of your Route(s) and make any changes needed. Click on each Route to see:
- The order of delivery drops
- Pick-up and Drop-off times
- A map of the Route
- You can add and remove deliveries from each route:
- Clicking on the green plus sign next to a delivery in the Unassigned Trips window will add it to the selected Route.
- Click on a red minus in the Assigned to window to remove a delivery from a Route.
- You can change pick-up times here. Click on the Time Field to update the pick-up time. Be cognizant of your drop-off times if you change pickup time, you do not want your drop off time before your pick up time. It is important that all pick-up times on the Route have the same time.
- If your Routes are to your specifications, click Save. The optimized Route(s) are now ready to be sent to Lyft.
How to Dispatch a Delivery to Lyft (Start Video at 6:25 seconds)
Optimized Route(s) can be sent to Lyft up to seven days in advance. Any Routes with a pick-up time within 30 minutes of being sent to Lyft are considered "on-demand" and will immediately be dispatched to a driver.Steps:
- Navigate to the Operations tab, select the Optimization icon and click on the Lyft Meals button.
- Select Create a Delivery Path with Lyft.
- Check off the Route(s) youâd like to send to Lyft.
- Click Send to Lyft.
- The spinning wheel icon shows the software is connecting with Lyft.
- When the Route(s) are successfully sent to Lyft, a pop-up window will appear confirming the Route(s) has been successfully sent to Lyft. Click Ok.
- Live statues of the Deliveries will be visible on the Dispatch screen.
